2010/2011 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHEDULE

We provide liberal religious education for pre-school though high school-age children, as well as nursery care for the youngest children.

Pre-schoolers (Panda Bears)
We encourage three- and four-year-olds to remain in Sunday service for the children’s story, after which they will be escorted to their classroom. Storybooks and crafts are used to teach the UU principles. In addition, the children will also have music and free play. Two childcare providers care for infants and preschoolers in the Panda Bear room.

Elementary (Polar Bears & Sun Bears) K-3rd
This year’s curriculum focuses on World Religions.  The children will be divided into 2 groups according to their age.  They will be using the same curriculum, “Picture Book World Religions”. Click here to see the schedule for the year.

Middle School (Black Bears) 4^th – 8^th
This year’s curriculum focuses on World Religions.  They will be using, “Holidays and Holy Days.” Click here to see the schedule for the year.

Teens – Presently, we do not have a teen group.  When we do have a group “Thinking the Web” is the curriculum that will be used.

In addition, the 6th – 8th graders will have an opportunity to be involved in a program called Coming Of Age. This program is UU rites of passage, a tradition for adolescent students that are transitioning into the teen program.

The Spirit Play approach to teaching curriculum will be used a couple of times a month in the three classrooms.  “This program tends to engage children where they are and helps them live into their own answers to the abiding questions.  The environment, the multisensory approach, the wondering questions, the learning centers, the stories, and the community of children and teachers are absolutely appropriate for UU children and RE Programs.”  Rev.
