2013 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION SCHEDULE

Nursery/Playroom (Panda Bears)
We encourage three year olds to remain in Sunday service for the story for all ages, after which the DRE will escort them to the playroom. In the playroom, the children will use storybooks and crafts to learn about the UU Principles. In addition, they will also have music and free play.

Preschool and Kindergarten (Polar Bears)
These children remain in Sunday service for the story for all ages, after which the DRE and teachers escort them to the Polar Bear room. In the Polar Bear room, the children will be learning about creation with 'River of Life' curriculum by Connie Barlow and the “UU ABC’s and Principles” using Dr. Seuss stories. They will also have stories, crafts, music/dance and free play. Click here to see the curriculum for the year.

Elementary (Sun Bears) and (Black Bears)
This year’s curriculum focuses on Unitarian and Universalists History. The children will be divided up into 2 groups according to their ages and abilities. Sun Bears 1st – 2nd graders will be using 'Spirit and Adventure' curriculum and Black Bears 3rd - 4th graders will be using 'Compass Points' curriculum along with our own additions. Click here to see the curriculum for the year.

Middle/High School (Koala Bears)

Our teens 5th grade and up will meet with teachers every Sunday. The classes will be loosely structured to encompass lighting a chalice, joys and sorrows and learning about Unitarian and Universalists history. In addition to these regular Sundays, the teens (6th Grade and up) will have a choice to attend Spirit Play classes or Youth Group Meetings once a month. Click here for more information about our Teen Bears.

K - 2nd Grade Our Whole Lives (OWL)

The Kindergarden - 2nd graders will have an opportunity to be involved in a program called Our Whole Lives (OWL). Our Whole Lives for Grades K-2, a 8-session curriculum is based on the philosophy that parents and education institutions can form a meaningful partnership for positive and responsible sexuality education. Click Here for Parent Letter.

4th - 6th Grade Our Whole Lives (OWL)

The 4th - 6th graders will have an opportunity to be involved in a program called Our Whole Lives (OWL). Our Whole Lives for Grades 4th - 6th, a 8-session curriculum is based on the philosophy that parents and education institutions can form a meaningful partnership for positive and responsible sexuality education. This class will be offered Fall 2013.

7th - 9th Grade Our Whole Lives (OWL)

The 7th - 9th graders will have an opportunity to be involved in a program called Our Whole Lives (OWL). Our Whole Lives for Grades 7-9, a 27-session curriculum is based on the philosophy that parents and education institutions can form a meaningful partnership for positive and responsible sexuality education. This class will be offered Spring 2014.

Spirit Play
In addition, the Preschool thru Teen groups will have Spirit Play classes every other month. Spirit Play is a Unitarian Universalists program of religious education and is modeled from a Montessori style class that will focus on UU principles and social justice issues. It is based in story and ritual, play and creativity. Spirit Play gives children the tools to make meaning of their lives within the container of Unitarian Universalists.

“This program tends to engage children where they are and helps them live into their own answers to the abiding questions.  The environment, the multisensory approach, the wondering questions, the learning centers, the stories, and the community of children and teachers are absolutely appropriate for UU children and RE Programs.”  Rev. Pat Hoertdoerfer, MRE.

Children's Worship
Children’s Worship will be held every other month. Preschool to teens will attend and there services will take different forms to satisfy their different needs, but worship, the consideration of that which we find worthy, is still the central focus of our religious community.
